This afternoon I went running, and I saw a woman walking four dogs on the bike trail. When I see someone walking a dog or two I assume the person is the owner (they could be dog-sitting or a professional dog walker) . As I passed the quartet of canines I wondered: At what number of dogs do you assume the person walking the dogs does not own all of them?
For the next couple of miles I pondered that. I have not reached a conclusion.

Depending upon the size of the dog. 2 large dogs, 3 medium/small dogs, or 4 VERY small dogs are the maximum reasonable amount of dogs to own in a house with two adults. You should never have more animals than you can wrangle, especially in the event of an emergency.
