San Luis Obispo has a little alleyway dubbed Bubblegum Alley that is somewhat famous. Visitors stick gum on the building walls on either side of the alley. It’s like a miniature version of Post Alley in Seattle (in September of 2011 I visited Post Alley–it was very bright and colorful). This afternoon I walked down to Bubblegum Alley to see how it compared to Post Alley.
Bubblegum Alley is darker and dirtier than Post Alley. This appears to be caused by all the mold and mildew. If you examine the wall carefully you notice a massive fungal presence. It’s a bit disconcerting. I understand why some business owners in the area think the alley is a menace.
