Right now I have two experiments running (flooding and Phytophthora). Both of them are designed to kill firs. Ideally some plants will die and some will live. I’ve been a bit dismayed over the past few days because the plants all looked so healthy. If all the plants remain healthy I have wasted considerable time, money, and effort.
I’ve been watching for symptoms of disease. And this afternoon I saw the first potential indications:
Maybe it will be easier to see like this:
I’m cautiously optimistic. Hopefully the right plants develop these symptoms over the next few days. Since I’m not sure if firs are susceptible to the power of suggestion I gave them things to think about. Man, you don’t look so good. Did you hear there are reports of Phytophtora in the neighborhood?
