I enjoy playing poker occasionally, though I am more inclined to play online than in person. I never play for money online, but it is nice when the game has something at stake. Last month I stumbled upon a game called Governor of Poker. I played the demo . . . and then felt completely compelled to buy the full version of the game. So I did.
The quality of the poker and the graphics is excellent. It has replaced Vegas rules solitaire as my number one ”I-have-some-time-to-kill-I-think-I’ll-play-this” game.
Here is a screen shot of the main menu. You can play as a male or female character.

You can play “Quick Poker,” which sets you up against 5, 8, 16, or 24 opponents (the table seats 8, so for 16 and 24 multiple tables are used). If you decide to play the regular game (in easy, medium, or hard) you are put in San Saba with enough money to buy into a poker tournament. From there you must place high enough to win money. After you earn some capital you can play in tournaments, cash games, and showdowns with the best players in some towns to earn transportation (a horse, a wagon, a carriage, a car). The goal of the game is to buy all the real estate in each town/city.
The picture below is of San Antonio (which I own).
Here is a shot of a tournament in progress (in El Dorado, which I also own). I ended up folding this hand, which was a good thing. The player on the left had trip Kings, and I did not get any flush or straight help.
If you enjoy playing poker you should check this game out (Governor of Poker). You can play the demo for free. Be careful; it’s addicting.
