Plant Pictures

I take pictures of plants. It’s a mixture of hobby and obsession. Georgia O’Keefe once stated that a flower can become the world (in the eyes of the beholder). I think I know what she was talking about. Flowers are amazing. Here are four pictures I took several years ago:

Hydrangea paniculata \'Nikko Blue\'Inula ensifolia

Geum \'Mrs Bradshaw\'Hemerocallis \'Stella D\'oro\'

  • This is kind of random, but I like to look at oranges up close. Or clementines or tangerines. More specifically the insides. The casing for each tiny wrapped droplet of juice is amazing! Ever take any pictures of that?

  • Ah, you would be marveling at a hesperidium. Those little casings for the droplets of juice are actually hairs (or at least composed of hair cells). I do not have any pictures of oranges . . . yet. One of my future projects is to work on a collection of fruit pictures.

  • Oh, great, so when I’m eating an orange, I’m basically eating a bunch of hair??
